It seems in these days of economic crisis and dwindling resources, trivial stuff like toys, hobbies and games would be the furthest thing from people’s minds. But apparently, hobbyists and collectors remain unfazed by this downturn and instead stay steady in anticipation for the next big thing in the pop culture landscape to turn collectible. They don’t have much long to wait, as the biggest event in pop culture, sci-fi/fantasy and mass media touches down in June with an explosive impact!

The 8th Philippine Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention 2009 hits hard with the most anticipated gathering of toy distributors, gamers, pop memorabilia collectors and cosplay enthusiasts this side of the planet. This year’s TOYCON will take place on June 13 and 14, at the SM Megatrade Hall 2 and 3 from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Highlight for the event this year will be the launch of summer movie blockbusters, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and the much awaited GI JOE: Rise of Cobra. Transformers and GI Joe fans will revel in these two famous toy properties with a collectors’ exhibit and movie merchandising displays from the movie’s distributor, Solar-UIP films.

Another exciting highlight for the event is the presence of MINDstyle, an international design company that focuses on delivering unique and original works to a very exclusive market by way of quality limited collectibles. They pioneered the vinyl toy design world with such artists as Michael Lau, Kathie Olivas, Brant Peters, Ron English and Buff Monster. MINDstyle will bring in two internationally renowned toy designers: Tim Tsui, one of the hottest Hong Kong figure artist illustrators. He has exhibited his works word wide designing everything from sneakers to toys to comics. And TobyHK, MINDstyle’s creative director whose works range from graphics, illustrations, web designs, characters or vinyl figures.

TOYCON will host the Philippine leg of MINDstyle and Disney’s Stitch Experiment 626 Project Custom Art Tour, a fresh look at the beloved Disney character through the eyes of some of today’s brightest artists in the vinyl toy design field. The tour will feature hand-customized, one-of-a kind versions of a special DIY blank Stitch created expressly for the Philippine TOYCON.

Another amazing exhibit to watch out for will be ABS-CBN’s Isang Lakas lifesize statues of Mars Ravelo’s creations like Lastikman, Kapitan Boom,Varga, TinyTony, Dragonna, and Flash Bomba.

TOYCON wouldn’t be complete without the annual Live Action Figure Cosplay competition, the biggest gathering of all, sci-fi/fantasy, comics and anime-inspired costume players in the Philippines. And of course the main draw for collectors is the huge retailer floor where they can hunt for the rarest and latest, most sought-after collectors’ pieces ranging from action figures, dolls, diecast cars and robots, comics and cards, artwork and pop memorabilia from all over the world.

At last! I’ve posted this event and it appeared first in my blog, more updates will be posted soon and I suggest you watch Jack TV and visit their website for some information to be posted there.
They have various activity set-ups as well like Skatepark, Wall Climbing, Art doodle space, photo booth area, exhibits, cartoon screening and TOYS – COMIC Exhibit.

There’s also a cosplay contest and I like to invite everyone to join and participate in a cosplay contest portraying any of their favorite cartoon character of Jack TV or WWE wrestlers. Comiket 75 ( December 28-30, 2008)

Today is the annual Comiket 75 or Comic Market 75 in Japan, and its the biggest convention and the mother breeding group for manga artist, previews and release of anime figures, merchandise, games and videos.

I have a friend who has a booth there and I haven’t got a chat with him for this year, and I also forgot to pick up my Hobby magazine that I requested from him last year. He offered this anime pantsu ( or panty) but I told him that I’m not interested on hentai stuff ahahhaha.

I’m so tired today hahaha, and today is the day 3 aka last day of the toy fair as I blog this, and here is my report for the day 2.

I arrived in the venue and then I just forgot to bring the audio cd for the cosplay catwalk show, its a customized cd audio music for the background of the catwalk show, but then instead of buying a new cd, I immediately fired up my laptop and connect to the wifi network in the hall and download some cool clips that I will use for the show. I visited Super 8 and Tab’s myspace and download my favorite track “New York City”, and then I download tracks from the album Cyberia Mix, an OST from the anime Serial Experiements Lain, which I used the same bgm music during the 1st cosplay contest catwalk at the AnimeXplosion year 2000, then I found this remix of the Little drummer boy by Dense Modesto in my laptop, and other cool tunes from the OST of Initial D and Tokyo Drift.

toys..toys..are everywhere..yay!

I just arrived late and got stuck in the traffic in the middle of the metro, but all of my suffering under the heat and traffic pays off after I arrived inside our event, 3rd Toys and Collectibles Christmas Fair 2008, I was greeted by the Manila Toys and Gift Show organizers and I have told them that I arrived late ahhah, but then my comrades are there and told me to help them in the live collectibles auction. Cholo hosted the auction and some of the part of the auction is hosted by me, and because that I need to fix something in my booth, I left for a moment and meet my sister at the event to have a quick lunch. Then I went back inside the event and saw lots of items for the auction.

This is not an official program or activity for the Manila Toys and Gift Show, but I got request from our Cosplay models to have a cosplay costrip at the 3rd day (last day) of the event, since most of them aren’t available on the 2nd day for the Cosplay Xmas Catwalk Show.

everyone is invited to come in their costume at the ground.

many kids will be there on the 3rd day, and I know they will enjoy when they see these sparkling people in colorful costumes and anime character attitudes.
